What’s wrong with baby food from a jar? Why make your baby food? Take a jar and look at the expiration date. Commercial baby foods are designed to have a long shelf life, which is not exactly the freshest way to feed your baby.

The ingredients of most commercial baby foods have been heated to high temperature and cooled in order to sterilize. This gives a long shelf life but destroys a lot of the flavor and nutrients in the process.

If a baby is brought up on bland processed foods, then it can make the transition to family mealtime difficult. When they are not used to the natural taste of foods then this could cause a fussy eater.

There is nothing wrong with giving a baby prepared foods for the sake of convenience, but don’t think this is the healthiest option. The healthiest baby foods are the one you make yourself. With making your own baby food you can be sure the best quality ingredients are used with no additives or preservatives. It’s a cheaper way to feed your baby and believe me taste so much better.

What’s the difference between brown rice and white rice and is brown rice better for you? First off, brown rice is better for you and the difference is. White rice used to be brown rice, but its outer nutritious husk (bran) was removed making it white. Meaning white rice is highly processed and stripped of its original nutrients.

Typically baby rice cereal is made from white rice and feeding your baby brown rice would be better. So listed below is a homemade nutritious brown rice cereal that contains no fillers or additives that makes you feel good about feeding it to your baby!

Brown rice cereal -
1/4 cup brown rice powder
1 1/2 cup filtered water

To make the rice powder, grind small quantities of brown rice in a coffee grinder to create a really fine powder.

Bring the water to a boil and slowly whisk in the rice powder to prevent sticking.
Simmer for about 10 minutes, whisking every few minutes. If the cereal is to thick, then stir in a little formula for the best consistency for your baby. Once your baby is introduced to fruits and vegetables, then add a little of their favorite puree.

The cereal may be stored in the refrigerator for up to 72 hours. Simply warm the cereal and add water or formula, as needed, to create the texture your baby prefers.

Brown banana surprise -
3 Tbsp cooked brown rice cereal
1/2 banana
1 Tbsp vanilla soymilk or formula
Pinch cinnamon

In a bowl, mash together the rice cereal, banana and cinnamon and stir in the soymilk. To adjust the texture of the cereal, just add a little more or a little less soymilk.
